Celebrating Craftsmanship for Aiya's 138th Anniversary
As part of our 138th anniversary celebration, we're partnering with someone whose work we absolutely love: Sophia, the artist behind LA-based Sojha Studio.
To celebrate, Sophia has handcrafted 14 one-of-a-kind Matcha bowls that we'll be gifting through an Instagram giveaway. And trust us, these are the kind of bowls that make your morning Matcha feel a little more special.
What drew us to Sophia wasn't just her beautiful ceramics, but her story.
Before becoming a full-time ceramist, Sophia worked as an engineer in the corporate world. While it looked like she was on the right path, something felt missing. Then she took a pottery class, and everything changed. The moment her hands touched clay, she found a creative outlet that felt truly her own. What started as a hobby quickly turned into a passion, and eventually a business built around creativity, intention, and craftsmanship.
At Aiya, that dedication to craft resonates deeply with us. For more than 138 years, Aiya has been producing Matcha in Japan, growing from its roots in Nishio to 5 locations around the world: Japan, the United States, Europe, China, and Thailand. Today, Aiya America is led by the 5th generation of the Sugita family, carrying forward a legacy built on quality, care, and tradition. Whether it's cultivating Matcha or shaping clay by hand, there's something special about taking the time to make things thoughtfully.
That's why this collaboration feels like such a natural fit.
Every Sojha Studio Matcha bowl is handmade by Sophia, meaning no two are exactly alike. Each one tells a story, not just of the clay and glaze, but of the person who made it. Pair one with your favorite Matcha, and you've got a little reminder to slow down, sip, and enjoy the moment.
As we celebrate 138 years of Aiya, we're grateful for opportunities to connect with talented local artists like Sophia and share the beauty of craftsmanship across cultures and generations.
